Hello Friends, In this tutorial we are going to learn about a role in Salesforce, which is a very important part of Salesforce.

After completing this tutorial, you will able to:

  • What is the role in Salesforce?
  • What is need of role in Salesforce?

The role is one of the ways to controls the level of visibility that users have into your organization’s data. Roles are arranged in a hierarchy. In role hierarchy member above the Record Owner’s Role will have access to the record. After creating a role hierarchy you can share access to records. Roles come into play if your org-wide default is set to private.

Behaviors of Role hierarchies:

  • Users in the same role and users outside of the role hierarchy may or may not have access to records.
  • By default, all users have read-write permission to all records in Salesforce but you can manipulate this with the help of role hierarchy.
  • A manager will always have access data of his or her employees, regardless of the org-wide default settings.

Trying to define record-level permissions without assigning a role to a user would be a lot like trying to travel from New York to San Francisco by car when there's an airplane available--there's just a much more efficient way of doing it!
